Brigadier General Rolemberg Ferreira Da Cunha
IADC Vice Director
The Brigadier-General Cunha joined the Army in 1978, when he attended the Preparatory School of the Brazilian Army (Escola Preparatória de Cadetes do Exército), in Campinas, State of São Paulo. In January 1981, he joined the Agulhas Negras Military Academy, in Resende, Rio de Janeiro, and was declared Aspirant Officer in December 1984. Upon completion of the Airborne Parachutist Course of the Brazilian Army in February 1985, he was appointed to work in the 36th Infantry Motorized Battalion in Uberlandia, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
In 1988, he attended the Aviation Army’s Helicopter Pilot Course. Afterwards, he attended the Combat Pilot and Instrument Flight Courses. In these specialties, he worked in Aviation Army Brigade, in Taubaté, São Paulo and in the 4th Aviation Battalion in Manaus, Amazonas-Brazil. In 1993, as a Captain, he attended the Infantry Advanced Course of the Officers Advanced School, in Rio de Janeiro, RJ. So, as a Perfected Officer, he served as Company Commander, Flight Instructor, Operations Officer and Intelligence Officer. In 2001 and 2002, he attended the Command and Staff Course of the Army, in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, and was designated to exercise the function of Intelligence Officer of the Aviation Army Brigade, in Taubate, SP. In 2004, he was transferred to the 2nd Military Region, São Paulo, SP, where he worked in the role of Logistics Operations Officer of the Southeast Military Command.
In 2005, he was appointed Commander of the 36th Motorized Infantry Battalion, in Uberlândia, MG. Upon completion of the Command, in 2007, he was appointed Military Observer in UN Mission in Sudan - UNMIS.
Upon his return from the UN mission, in 2008, he was appointed of the Army Commander's Office, serving as a Parliamentary Advisor of the Army Command at the National Congress. In 2011, he attended the Advanced Course in Hemispheric Defense and Security in the Inter-American Defense College (IADC), Class 50, in Washington, DC. In the following year, he remained as Advisor in the IADC, as head of the Division of Research and Research. In 2014 he was promoted to Major General, and was assigned to command the 12th Light Infantry Brigade (Airmobile) until he was appointed the Vice Director of the Inter-American Defense College on December 1, 2016.
Throughout his military career, he attended the following specialization courses: Basic Parachutist Course, Rio de Janeiro, RJ; Basic Mountaineering Course, São João del Rey, MG; Pilot Course in AS-PANTHER Aircraft, France; Combat Pilot course and Instrument Flight Course in helicopters, both in Taubaté, São Paulo, and the Internship for adaptation to the Jungle, in Manaus, AM.
